Tour Edge Exotics XCG-3 Irons

From Golf Magazine (ClubTest, March 2010)

Category: Game-Improvement Irons
We tested: 3-PW with True Temper Dynamic Gold High Launch steel shaft

Company line: "Our dual-density, lightweight dampening system (ultralight carbon and thermal plastic elastomer) covers the entire cavity. The 7-iron to PW have a softer insert for more responsive feel and added spin. Mid- and long irons feature a denser insert for improved rebound (distance) and firmer feel."

Our Testers say:
PROS: Short irons are nimble scoring clubs; dense feel, substantial mass behind the shot; for stronger mid-handicappers who prefer a heavier shaft; many panelists experience a lower, boring ball flight; appreciable distance control; mis-hits are acknowledged but not punished feel-wise, good shock reduction and a hint of feedback.

CONS: Nothing about the long irons stands out; some testers want more forgiveness than these offer; rough, cord-like grip could be too much; smooth tempo swingers with moderate to slower swing speeds might want a lighter-feeling set.
