ClubTest 2014: Titleist Scotty Cameron GoLo 5 Putter
Titleist Scotty Cameron GoLo 5
Category: Midsize Mallet Putters
WE TESTED: 34”, 35” shaft lengths
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The new GoLo 5 has a milled stainless steel head with a “Silver Mist” finish.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Responsiveness and immediate roll produce reliable distances; very forgiving—even off-center hits roll on line and get close; great balance and weighting make it easy to judge how far to take it back.
FEEL: Testers couldn’t say enough about the soft, pure feel off the clubface, which gives the ball a smooth push at impact; its weight promotes a steady, rhythmic stroke.
LOOK: Tops in the test; classic, sleek and powerful, with angles as smooth as a ’57 Chevy; the clubhead looks as though it’s machined from a single block of brushed steel and has an effective, bold, black sight line.
Adjustable weights in the heel and toe must be fitted by a professional; the heft and balance of this putter covers up mis-hits so well that some testers desire more feedback; there can be a learning curve—the heavyish head causes a few players to over-hit their initial putts.
BOTTOM LINE: The top-rated putter in the test. It provides an exceptionally fluid feel at impact. Ample forgiveness and spot-on weighting encourages an effortless swing, which can improve both your stroke and scores.
