ClubTest 2014: Titleist 913F.d Fairway Woods
Titleist 913F.d Fairway Woods
Category: Better-Player Fairway Woods
WE TESTED: 15° (adjusts 14.25° to 16.5°) with Mitsubishi Diamana S+ Blue 72 graphite shaft and Mitsubishi Diamana D+ White 82 shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The hosel adjustability allows for independent loft and lie alterations. The club is engineered to bolster launch and reduce spin.
PLAYABILITY: The 913 F.d provides a penetrating flight that you can shape any way you want if you strike it well; outstanding from the tee and pretty good from most fairway lies; solid option off the tee on short par 4s.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Good contact yields straight shots; the club covers up directional misses more times than not.
DISTANCE: One of the longer models; a lower trajectory produces plenty of rollout; slight misses maintain adequate distance.
FEEL: Receives top marks; a compressed thump on well-struck shots is noticeably different from misses; a traditional, controlled response that testers expect from a Titleist club; strong and stable—guys feel the clubhead from setup to impact.
LOOK: About as good as it gets; typical Titleist—understated and classy; the shape and color are pretty sweet.
Off-center hits yield slightly less length than some other clubs; not the best from rough or trouble lies; some testers prefer a bit more help on misses.
BOTTOM LINE: Like so many Titleist offerings, this one looks and feels great. Plus, there’s a healthy dose of distance when you catch it right.
