ClubTest 2013: TaylorMade RocketBallz Stage 2 Tour Rescue
TaylorMade RocketBallz Stage 2 Tour Rescue
Category: Better-Player Hybrids
WE TESTED: 3 (18.5°; +/-1.5°), 4 (21.5°; +/-1.5°) with Matrix RocketFuel 80 graphite shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The “SpeedPocket” channel creates additional face flex for faster ball speeds. The adjustable hosel enables you to change loft by +/- 1.5°.
PLAYABILITY: Excellent off clean lies and deadly off the tee; moderate curvature and trajectory manipulation; adjustable loft and lie a plus.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Very consistent -- one of the easiest hybrids to hit; some guys see significant directional help on toe and heel strikes.
DISTANCE: The longest hybrids -- many testers gain 5-15 yards over the competition; pummels the ball across the entire face; an absolute howitzer off of the tee; a par-5 tamer.
FEEL: Hot, almost hollow impact sensation -- feels and sounds much like a driver; head is light but solid through the turf; minimal negative feedback on poorly struck shots.
LOOK: Testers praise its larger head; black face frames the ball well so it looks as easy to hit as it plays.
The crown graphics aren't for everyone; some guys struggle from rough or odd lies; a few testers prefer more feedback -- not a lot to distinguish good strikes from bad.
BOTTOM LINE: Flashy, forgiving club delivers serious power. A distance standout, and competent in all categories.
