TAYLORMADE OS SPIDER

CATEGORY: Large Mallet Putters
PRICE: $200, $250 (OS CB version)
WE TESTED: 34", 35", 36", 38" lengths
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The oversize head increases stability; a vertical, deep-milled insert improves roll by adding grip at impact.

PROS

DISTANCE CONTROL: One of the best—outstanding from long range; both the OS and OS CB (counterbalance, in 36" and 38”) are really good from 10 to 20 feet.
FEEL: The aluminum insert tells you when you've missed; head is as stable as anything out there; the larger OS CB lets you point and pull the trigger for an automatic roll.
LOOK: Oversize heads and shapes give you confidence on putts of all lengths; three-striped alignment aid works great.

CONS

The big heads can be unwieldy; some guys prefer a more distinct feel; a couple of testers find it much more effective on longer putts than on short ones.

BOTTOM LINE: The OS Spider (and OS CB Spider) rank among the best models in the test. Superior stability and excellent control make them worth a long look.
