TAYLORMADE M2 HYBRID

CATEGORY: Game Improvement Hybrids
PRICE: $200
WE TESTED: 3 (19°), 4 (22°) with TaylorMade Reax graphite shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: A deeper, more flexible channel in the sole provides added ball speed on shots struck low on the face.

PROS

PLAYABILITY: A stroke-saver from a variety of lies, including rough; boring ball flight makes it a great choice off the tee on par 4s and long par 3s; gets the ball down the fairway with lots of rollout; modest workability adds to the overall package.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Slicers rejoice -- the M2s draw bias will straighten you out fast; a large, fairly deep face provides moderate forgiveness on misses.
DISTANCE: A reliable performer that can smash the ball; with most hybrids, it's competitive on solid strikes; minimal punishment on mis-hits.
FEEL: Well-balanced head and shaft help maintain stability throughout the swing, even on off-center hits; center strikes are solid and rewarding, while slight misses have a heavier thud across the clubface.
LOOK: The rounded head shape is classic and elegant, echoing past TaylorMade hybrids; the black head with black face is all business; the channel along the sole lets you know that these clubs are built for speed.

CONS

Works from all lies but is not the easiest hybrid to launch high and land softly on approach shots; a few testers want more help maintaining distance on heel and toe misses; might not be ideal for guys who already tend to draw the ball.

BOTTOM LINE: Mid- to high-handicappers with higher swing speeds will find the most versatility in this tee-to-green workhorse. If you struggle with a slice, look no further -- this stable head is made with you in mind.
