This week, Titleist is debuting prototype 917 drivers at the PGA Tour's Quicken Loans National in Bethesda, MD. Judging from these pics, the new sticks have an "Active Recoil Channel" along the sole plus a removable "SureFit CG" weight.

Earlier this year, the company unveiled limited edition C16 drivers with a neutral CG weight bar, as well as one that has 9 grams on one end and 1 gram on the other. According to Titleist officials, the carbon tube helps increase ball speed more than it corrects shot shape. That's because proper CG location enables players to swing harder and with more confidence, which leads to faster speeds.

No word yet if the 917 contains additional features of the C16 such as a high-strength titanium SP700 cup face or "SureFit" grip with movable weight. Expect the 917 drivers to hit stores this fall.
