Ping Cadence TR Rustler Putter

Category: Large Mallet Putters
WE TESTED:
34", 35" shaft length
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: “True Roll” grooves vary in width and depth for greater consistency between center and off-center hits.

PROS

DISTANCE CONTROL: One of the highest-ranked models in the category; produces a consistent, predictable roll; ample weight makes finding the right distance a painless proposition; on the money whether you’re calling short range or long distance.
FEEL: One of the top-rated; smooth on solid hits, with enough contrast on misses to point out your mistake; testers like the option of choosing from two different weights, standard or heavy; the ball comes off the face pure, with plenty of gusto every time.
LOOK: The Cadence TR Rustler is a favorite among testers; the combination of the white sight line and dark finish looks classy and easy to align; a relatively small face compared with other models, which helps some guys focus on impact.

CONS

The sensation at impact isn’t as distinct, or pleasurable, as a small handful of testers would like it to be; a few guys say the ball comes off the face insert a little too hot for their liking; one or two believe that the face appears a little closed at address.

BOTTOM LINE: The Cadence TR Rustler is among the top models tested. It’s a solid, forgiving high-MOI mallet that lets you choose the head feel— heavy (black face insert) or standard (blue)—that works best for your stroke and green conditions.
