ClubTest 2016: Odyssey Works Versa Marxman Fang Putter Review
ODYSSEY WORKS VERSA MARXMAN FANG
CATEGORY: Midsize Mallet Putters
PRICE: $200; $220 with SuperStroke grip
WE TESTED: 34", 35" lengths
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: Added weight spread to the perimeter increases MOI for improved control.
DISTANCE CONTROL: One of the best -- testers are immediately dialed in on lag putts; consistent roll on off-center contact -- comfortable to calibrate for any length putt.
FEEL: This stable, well-balanced putter steers your stroke down the path; large face has a forgiving, extended hitting zone and the insert feels pure; the high-MOI head combines with a large SuperStroke grip to steady your hands when the pressure's on.
LOOK: The big, airy clubhead looks forgiving and sends a "can't miss" message; a vivid, black and white "runway" bisects the head to ensure proper alignment and path.
Traditionalists and some better players balk at the large head and aggressive alignment aid; a few guys say it lacks finesse; a couple others find little difference in feel between center and off-center contact.
BOTTOM LINE: The Marxman Fang is one of the best models tested. It's a terrific blend of stability, true roll and alignment.
