Nike Vapor Fly Hybrid

CATEGORY: Game Improvement Hybrids
PRICE: $220
WE TESTED: 3 (20°) with Mitsubishi Tensei CK Blue 80H graphite shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: A more flexible sole channel than before leads to faster ball speeds on shots struck low on the face.

PLAYABILITY: Reliable from everywhere, including uneven lies; workable despite a slight draw bias; penetrating medium to low flight leads to significant rollout.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Pretty helpful -- the Vapor Fly minimizes sidespin and eliminates most severe misses; forgiving on thin and toe hits, which results in straight misses.
DISTANCE: Repeatable, respectable lengths that rival others in the category; stands out for minimizing distance loss on severely off-center strikes.
FEEL: Nicely balanced club that's easy to control during the swing; stable sensation leads to a crisp click at impact that's easy on the ears and the hands; no problem distinguishing good strikes from poor ones -- mis-hits lack the liveliness of pure contact.
LOOK: Sporty and stylish without being brash, the colors stand out in a sea of gray and black; most guys like the teardrop shape with bright blue finish and neon green Nike swoosh.

A relatively low flyer -- look elsewhere if you need help hitting it high; some guys want more forgiveness and fewer hooks; the busy cosmetics are too much for a few testers.

BOTTOM LINE: The Vapor Fly is more than just flash -- it delivers the goods: strong off the tee, stable through the swing and supercharged at impact.
