Two-time major champion Suzann Pettersen challenged the Nike footwear design team to create a shoe lighter and with more traction and support than previous models—certainly no easy task.

“We see a lot of shoes out there are flexible but provide very little stability during the swing,” said Nike Golf global footwear product director Lee Walker. “On the flip side, there’s no shortage of golf shoes that offer good lateral support but are also heavy and offer no flexibility.”

But by the looks of the New Nike FI Impact 2, the designers delivered on Pettersen’s lofty request.

The goals with the FI Impact 2 were to improve traction and enhance flexibility. For stability purposes, the FI Impact 2 has a larger base than the original FI Impact, but is a full ounce lighter. It also features a sole design similar to the Nike TW ’15 in order to boost traction in the toe and heel.

The shoes provided an immediate benefit for Pettersen, who first wore them in April at the LOTTE Championship and won the Manulife LPGA Classic in June wearing a white pair with a black swoosh.

Available now at Nike.com for $120, the FI Impact 2 offers four colorways for women (pure platinum, pink pow, white and black) and four for men (wolf grey, black, photo blue and dark grey).
