Nike Method Matter M5-12 Putter

Category: Midsize Mallet Putters
Price: $130
WE TESTED:
 35” shaft length
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The face-balanced design has added perimeter weighting to help with mis-hits.

PROS

DISTANCE CONTROL: The putter face is hotter than in most midsize mallets, but distances are predictable and easy to calibrate with a bit of practice; good forgiveness all over the face, especially on the toe; requires little effort to hit a long way but isn’t so hot that it hurts you from short range.
FEEL: This mallet design has a well-proportioned feel that’s particularly helpful on slower putting surfaces; most guys agree that there’s minimal feedback but just enough to know where and how you missed; a pronounced click at impact.
LOOK: The M5-12 is one of the best-looking putters in the category; the simple yet modern black, white and red color scheme is a favorite; the black mallet has a sinister appearance and gives testers confidence, even with just one aiming line.

CONS

Some testers want more feedback and differentiation between solid strikes and slight misses; a few others consider the head too heavy and the face too lively for shorter putts on faster greens.

BOTTOM LINE: The Nike Method Matter M5-12 is one of the better midsize mallets. It’s a beautiful, solidly built putter that’s sturdy in the hands of any golfer, but probably best for those who seek forgiveness above all else.
