European Ryder Cup hero Jamie Donaldson has signed a deal with TaylorMade to play the company’s driver, woods and hybrids. The Welshman’s first tournament as a TaylorMade staffer will be the Volvo World Match Play, October 15-19 at London Golf Club. He’ll also have a TaylorMade hat and bag.
Donaldson is coming off one of the best seasons of his career on both the European and PGA tours. He posted a 3-1-0 record at Gleneagles and hit the event's defining shot, a pitching wedge to within two feet on the 15th hole that closed out a 4&3 victory over Keegan Bradley and ensured a European victory. Donaldson also finished T-2 at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, won the Czech Open in August and posted four other top-10s on the European Tour. With €1,774,445 through the KLM Open, Donaldson was behind only Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai.
The deal requires that any of Donaldson’s woods be TaylorMade, which includes driver, fairway woods and hybrids. The makeup of the 38-year-old’s bag probably won’t change much. As of this year’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, Donaldson was playing a TaylorMade SLDR driver and a RocketBallz Tour 3-wood, a Callaway Big Bertha steelhead 5-wood, a Ping i15 hybrid and irons, Titleist Vokey wedges and an Odyssey Sabertooth putter.
