ClubTest 2013: Wilson Staff FG Tour TC Wedges
Wilson Staff FG Tour TC Wedges
WE TESTED: 50°/8°, 52°/6°, 54°/10°, 56°/14°, 56°/11°, 58°/10°, 60°/7°, 60°/10°, 64°/9° with True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The "Traditional" sole is for medium to steep swings, while the "Tour Grind" suits more shallow swings. Milled grooves boost spin and improve shot-to-shot consistency.
PLAYABILITY: Quite a bit of versatility from tough lies and rough; performs well around the green; ball flight is a little higher than most but no loss of yardage.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Much better on short shots and from the rough than from the fairway; altering your yardage on scoring shots is pretty easy.
FEEL: Many testers praise the stable sensation through impact; the Staff FG Tour TC has a slightly heavier clubhead feel than many others tested.
LOOK: The classic shape and satin finish are hard to argue with; if you like a blade-like look, these wedges are for you.
Several guys say that impact feel is lacking a bit in comparison with competitive wedge models; not spectacular in any one area; the Wilsons play like they have less bounce than some testers prefer.
BOTTOM LINE: Traditional looks and predictable performance make for a decent option in the scoring zone.
