ClubTest 2013: TaylorMade ATV Wedges
TaylorMade ATV Wedges
WE TESTED: 50°, 52°, 54°, 56°, 58°, 60° with KBS Tour 90 steel shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The sole is built to have the proper amount of bounce in tight lies, rough and bunkers, as well as for flops, pitches, and chips. Milled grooves combine with a micro-texture face pattern to increase spin in a variety of conditions.
PLAYABILITY: The wide sole makes short work of bunker shots and trouble shots from the rough; it's very dependable from awkward distances; you can play almost any shot with this club.
DISTANCE CONTROL: The ATV wedge is consistent on short pitches and chips and from the sand; it's adequately predictable on full shots; surprisingly forgiving and friendly on misses.
FEEL: Very stable through impact with an effortless sensation through the turf; feedback is pretty good; it's forceful at contact on full swings.
LOOK: The appearance at address is nice and traditional; clean and simple, it hides the technology very well regardless of its innovative sole design.
Minor issues for some guys when they open the face on specialty shots; not as pleasing a feel as a few testers would like; handful of guys prefer more variation in trajectory.
BOTTOM LINE: Good-looking sticks that are versatile and easy to hit.
