ClubTest 2013: STX XForm3 Putter
STX XForm3 Putter
Category: Midsize Mallet Putters
WE TESTED: 35" shaft length
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The "diamond" milled face is engineered to get putts rolling quickly. The machined, 304 stainless steel head provides soft feel.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Very accurate from long range; gets the ball rolling quickly and produces consistent distances; a forgiving club that gets a good deal out of mis-hits.
FEEL: Stable, well-weighted head that absorbs mis-hits; face seems to grip the ball at impact; testers praise the ribbed grip, which locks their hands onto the club.
LOOK: Unadorned, matte gray, centershafted club almost looks like an unfinished prototype; boxy head is polarizing among testers, but most find that it sets up square and frames the ball nicely.
Nearly all testers say the clubhead catches the turf on the takeaway; some guys want a more pronounced alignment aid or aiming line; a few struggle to make short putts.
BOTTOM LINE: The XForm3 is a moderately forgiving, center-shafted putter that's accurate from long range but doesn't stand out for much else.
