ClubTest 2013: Odyssey Versa #1 Putter
Odyssey Versa #1 Putter
Category: Blade Putters
WE TESTED: 34", 35" shaft lengths
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: Versa has a high-contrast black-white-black or white-black-white pattern designed to highlight clubface angle at address. The White Hot insert delivers a consistent sound and feel to aid distance control.
DISTANCE CONTROL: The relatively soft insert helps to dial in the proper range, especially on faster greens; consistent pace on most strikes.
FEEL: A light feel through the stroke makes you hit more aggressive putts; the ball stays on the clubface longer than usual; putts get rolling very quickly after leaving the face.
LOOK: Alternating black-and-white colors create an excellent visual aid to see the target line; pleasing head shape.
The color scheme is not everyone's favorite; some testers prefer an alignment aid that aims at the target rather than sitting perpendicular to it; a few guys say the feel at impact is somewhat "plasticky."
BOTTOM LINE: Traditional shape with a highly unusual visual aid that provides the expected Odyssey feel. Testers are split on the color pattern that best fits their eye and stroke.
