ClubTest 2013: Bobby Grace AMG Fat Lady Putter
Bobby Grace AMG Fat Lady Putter
Category: High-MOI Mallet Putters
WE TESTED: 35" shaft length
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The step-down feature makes the sight line even more pronounced, to promote square alignment. The "Multi-Rebound Radial" face insert gets putts rolling end-over-end quickly, with little or no skid.
DISTANCE CONTROL: One of the best from inside 5 feet -- the large, soft sweet spot allows you to hit the ball firmly with confidence; the club gets the ball rolling quickly and true, at predictable speeds, making cash-in putts a breeze.
FEEL: The center of the face is marshmallow soft; mis-hits give you a slightly firmer but not unpleasant feel; minimal twisting, especially toward the toe.
LOOK: Half-oval-shaped head with lines that are both functional and appealing to the eye; black sight line stands out with "stairs" on either side, to confirm the aim line.
The face is too quiet and muted for some testers, and gives the impression that you have to hit the ball harder to get it to the hole on long or uphill putts; the stairs on the top of the head are distracting to a few guys.
BOTTOM LINE: An easy-to-use putter that works best for straight-back-straight-through strokes and that is nearly automatic inside five feet.
