ClubTest 2014: Cobra Bio Cell+ Fairway Woods
Cobra Bio Cell+ Fairway Woods
Category: Better-Player Fairway Woods
WE TESTED: 3-4 (adjusts 12° to 15°) and 5-7 (16° to 19°) with Matrix Ozik Red Tie 6Q3 graphite shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: Eight loft settings help manage trajectory. The thin, forged steel face insert is built to flex more at impact.
PLAYABILITY: The Bio Cell+ is more workable than most clubs tested; one of the best from the rough and various trouble lies; it’s easy to get airborne in most situations; no balloon shots.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Best in class for directional control; little dispersion on all types of hits makes it a winner.
DISTANCE: One of the top fairway woods; consistently long—it’s bombs away off the tee; slight misses sometimes travel as far as good hits fly on a few other models.
FEEL: Testers find it very stable with little twisting, even from the rough; provides a compressing sensation at impact; guys can tell when they hit it off-center, but the response is never harsh.
LOOK: Top-shelf cosmetics— the compact clubhead and deep face please the eye of many testers; the color options and honeycomb pattern are unique; an attractive shape at address.
A few testers would prefer a bit more weight through the swing; multiple color combos and the faint cell pattern on the crown don’t agree with everyone.
BOTTOM LINE: Bio Cell+ is the top model in the better-player fairway wood category. Big distance with plenty of accuracy is hard to beat.
