ClubTest 2014: Cobra Bio Cell Hybrids
Cobra Bio Cell Hybrids
Category: Game-Improvement Hybrids
WE TESTED: 3-4 (adjusts 19° to 22°) with Cobra Bio Cell graphite shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: Available in five colors: red, black, blue, gray and orange. The adjustable hosel changes loft by +/-1.5° and includes three draw settings.
PLAYABILITY: On the mark off the tee and a hatchet from the rough; adjustability is a big plus for guys who play multiple courses; a touch of right/left workability; enough strength to plow through the turf without flinching.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: A strong suit; very little sidespin—where you aim it is where it goes; faulty swings get acceptable results.
DISTANCE: Above average on the whole; high, drifty draws carry a long way, even for slower swingers; consistent distance off the tee.
FEEL: Efficient impact sensation no matter where you hit it; weighting works well for most swings.
LOOK: Many like the bold look— bright colors and snakeskin graphic stand out and scream “power”; thumbs up to its traditional hybrid head shape.
Not everyone’s buying the brightness—looks distracting and tacky to a few testers; several panelists say it’s tough to catch consistently off the fairway; “feel” players might want more feedback.
BOTTOM LINE: A nice, adjustable offering that holds its own in a class that’s crowded with good options. Cobra has a polished, powerful club that specializes in high, straight and long.
