Cleveland Classic HB 1i Putter

Category: Blade Putters
Price: $100
WE TESTED:
34”, 35” shaft lengths
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The polymer face insert provides a smooth impact feel.

PROS

DISTANCE CONTROL: The clubhead sends the ball on a smooth, pure roll almost instantly; testers are impressed with the polymer insert—it’s super consistent putt to putt, which makes it a snap to dial in distances; lightish head with a fair amount of pop.
FEEL: The HB 1i sets up well, swings nicely and is easy to control; the face insert provides a soft-but-solid sensation at impact, with a hint of feedback that lets you know when you’ve struck it off-center; a decent amount of stroke-smoothing heft in this lighter, heel-toe-weighted design.
LOOK: One of the best-looking blades; the HB 1i lives up to the “classic” name with its understated elegance; traditional, compact head with softly rounded edges; clean finish with white alignment line makes setup a real pleasure.

CONS

Not for those seeking a heavy putter or one that provides tremendous help on misses; the grip seems thinner than most, which is a turnoff for some guys; hushed at impact—a few testers want to hear the ball come off the face more.

BOTTOM LINE: One of the top-rated models, and it comes at a great value. A classic beauty, this lighter-weight blade features an insert that enhances feel and control. No gimmicks: It simply gets the ball in the hole.
