Cleveland Classic Collection HB 2
Category: Midsize Mallet Putters
WE TESTED: 34”, 35” shaft lengths
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The 17-4 stainless steel head has a deeper CNC facemilling pattern than the previous model, for softer feel.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Light clubhead gets putts rolling quickly off the face—no need for any extra oomph during the stroke; fans of this putter say it’s easy to get a feel for distance on longer putts.
FEEL: Many testers like the understated response at impact, which is quite similar on center strikes and off-center hits; advocates describe it as sweet, soft and comforting, with just enough feedback.
LOOK: One of the better-looking models; the compact head is simple, elegant and all business—players who use blades will appreciate the look; matte black finish reduces glare, while the white alignment line stands out.
The light weight of this Cleveland putter seems to detract from overall stability and distance control; feel at impact is muted, no matter where you catch it—a definite turnoff for some testers; a few guys find that the club sits a bit too toe-up.
BOTTOM LINE: The club’s weighting lends itself to a fluid, arcing stroke. While the HB 2 has some forgiveness, it requires a deft touch and may be best for low- to mid-handicappers.
