Adams Idea Tech V4 Forged Irons
Category: Game-Improvement Irons
Price: $799, steel; $899, graphite
WE TESTED:
3-5 hybrids, 6-PW with True Temper Performance Step steel shaft; 3-5 hybrids, 6-PW with Mitsubishi Rayon Bassara graphite shaft.
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The standard set includes hybrid long irons (3, 4, and 5) plus forged carbon steel mid- and short irons (6-PW). The hybrids [not pictured] feature slots in the crown and sole to generate rebound similar to metal woods.

PROS
PLAYABILITY:
Mid-high trajectory is the norm for most testers; relatively easy to hit draws; great for scrambling, particularly from the rough.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Long-iron hybrids get the ball in the air effortlessly, even when you miss it a bit; they hold their line very well and want to go straight; very good stability with hybrids through the set.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Fairly predictable length with hybrids and quite good with forged irons; hybrids are longer for some guys than their own irons.
FEEL: Smooth sensation at impact with the 3-, 4- and 5-hybrids; the 6-iron to PW definitely feel forged; they’re comfortable to move throughout the swing.
LOOK: These are not too offset and not too big; the color does a nice job of making the heads look less obtrusive and more pleasing to the eye at address.

CONS
Some testers prefer a bit more length from the irons; more muted impact sensation than a few guys desire, possibly due to the graphite shafts.

BOTTOM LINE: This hybrid-iron design provides a solid dose of forgiveness with good looks and repeatable distance.
