ClubTest 2013: Adams Idea CMB Irons
Adams Idea CMB Irons
Category: Better-Player Irons
Price: $999, steel
WE TESTED: 4-GW with KBS Tour C-Taper steel shaft.
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The heads are crafted from soft, forged 1025 carbon steel. Tungsten weighting in the heel and toe enhance head stability.
PLAYABILITY: Easy to flight down and bend at will; clubhead powers through rough; cambered sole performs well from a wide variety of lies and turf conditions.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Laser-guided short irons; longer clubs offer adequate forgiveness for a compact head, but they won't save bad swings.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Average distance compared with others tested; can be easily manipulated to accommodate odd yardages.
FEEL: Club glides through impact; incredibly stable at the bottom of the swing; muscular feel in long clubs gives way to more softness in short irons and on half swings.
LOOK: Receives top marks; great-looking sticks -- testers love the traditional, thin topline and minimal offset; high-tech touches are subtle and hidden; the sight of it convinces you that you're a better player.
A true player's club, it won't coddle you on bad swings -- for some testers, a wider than expected dispersion; a few guys find it a bit too heavy to control around the green.
BOTTOM LINE: One of the top-rated models. A superb option for the shotmaker who seeks a sleek, smooth-swinging blade with some all-terrain versatility.
