The latest iteration of Cleveland’s famed 588 wedge is the company’s biggest wedge offering to date, including 120 options (comprised of clubhead model, bounce, loft, and sole grind). Available in blade and cavity back models, the 588 RTX 2.0 ($130) comes in three unique sole grinds that are geared to optimize performance for specific swing types and playing conditions. The Low Bounce grind is best for players with a shallow angle of attack or very firm conditions, while the Standard Bounce grind is aimed at those who have a “normal,” angle of attack and desire the highest level of versatility from a variety of playing conditions. The Full Sole grind offers the highest amount of effective bounce and is best for players with steep attack angles or those who tend to play in soft conditions.
The blade model is slightly more compact and is available in both Black Satin and Tour Stain finishes, while the cavity back is slightly larger and more forgiving and comes in only the Black Satin finish. Both models feature Tour Zip grooves that are approximately 8-percent deeper than the previous RTX design, making them even more effective at performing from thick or wet turf. A new Rotex face-milling pattern increases face roughness for even more spin and control.
