SAN DIEGO — Stuart Appleby matched his lowest career score in a U.S. Open Thursday when he shot 69. Previously, the Australian had a 69 in the fourth round of the 2002 U.S. Open at Bethpage and the 2003 U.S. Open at Olympia Fields.
One of the steadiest players on the PGA Tour, Appleby hit 12 of 14 fairways and 11 of 18 greens. He also avoided three putting.
