River Hills Golf & Country Club
River Hills Country Club is located in the heart of Little River, one of the most vibrant areas of the northern Grand Strand. Opened in 1988 and originally designed by Tom Jackson, the course is particularly popular among local players as well as vacation visitors. It is also considered one of the best-value courses in the area, with well-kept Champion Bermuda greens and 18 holes that weave in and out of oak and pine and around ponds and bunkers.
River Hills features more elevation change—up to 40 feet at a time—than most other Myrtle Beach-area golf courses. With large, amoeba-shaped greens, putting can be as much a challenge as ball-striking, given that its 18 holes weave through forest and around ponds, with water coming into play on 13 of them. The most notable hole is the 17th, a 526-yard par five. It is a double-dogleg three-shotter—first left, then right—with two carries over water required for success. Players must also avoid three bunkers by the green in order to have a chance at birdie. Otherwise, bogey or worse is likely.
Off the course at River Hills, golfers have access to well-appointed facilities, including a newly-renovated Colonial-style clubhouse. A practice putting and chipping green and grass driving range, with a practice bunker, are available on-site for pre- and post-round practice sessions. The staff at River Hills is also available to organize golf outings, from a small-scale gathering to a full-field corporate day.
