Farmstead Golf Links

Discover a hidden gem that's off the beaten path of most Myrtle Beach area golf courses at Farmstead Golf Links in Calabash, NC.

Straddling the North Carolina-South Carolina border approximately 15 miles inland from the coast, this large tract of farmland has been transformed into an outstanding location for both golf and sightseeing. Nestled amid the towering pines and pristine wetlands of the Border Belt, Farmstead is well worth the drive to the country.

Designed by renowned architect Willard Byrd and renovated by Dave Johnson, this 7,242-yard, par-72 monster looks like a scene from the Scottish countryside. With a course rating of 74.5 and a slope of 135, this links-style layout merges with the Low country landscape to form a unique experience and a true test of golf for all skill levels.

Eat your Wheaties and bring your big-boy driver to tackle this long tract, but Farmstead also forces you to use the rest of your clubs effectively to make it around this course successfully. The wetlands and woodlands serve as hazards that conspire to add to the degree of difficulty, especially for heavy hitters who grip it and rip it.

The signature and finishing hole at No. 18 is the longest on the Grand Strand, stretching into two states from tee to green. Voted one of the top holes among the 100 courses on the Strand, the 767-yard par-6 tees off in SC and holes out in NC, a unique experience in itself for bragging rights. The dogleg left requires a pinpoint approach shot with water on one side and a deep bunker on the other.

But you'll be plenty warmed up for the finishing hole after playing the first 17. Farmstead offers a mix of par 3s and par 5s that are both challenging for all handicaps and fun for those looking for risk-reward opportunities to drop some strokes. Measuring only 6,566 yards from the blue tees, 6097 from the whites and 5,638 from the golds, lighter hitters don't have to let the long distance keep them from enjoying their rounds at Farmstead.

The only hole that you might be more excited to see than the 18th is the 19th, a comfortable lounge and grill located inside the Georgian-style clubhouse. The outdoor patio overlooks the first tee and the 18th hole, allowing golfers to relive their state-to-state shots over a few drinks while watching others tackle the beast. Farmstead also offers a full-service pro shop, including professional instruction upon request. A driving range and practice putting green give golfers the chance to warm up their drivers before teeing off on the long layout.
