Sebonack Golf Club

Sebonack has been ranked as one of the top courses in the U.S. by Golf Magazine's panel of experts.

Somehow, the divergent backgrounds, personalities and design philosophies of Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak meshed to create this seaside gem that sits astride National Golf Links of America and just down the road from Shinnecock Hills.

Right from the start on the short par-4 1st hole, with a green directly on the water, the course is remarkable. With windswept fairway bunkers that blend seamlessly into fescue rough, the course flows for 7,316 yards and from one postcard view to another. The toughest hole on the course, according to Doak, is the 454-yard par-4 2nd. Not only do golfers have to deal with uneven lies in the fairway and swales of sand dunes, but a large false front on the green sends short approach shots back into the fairway.

Sebonack's memorable holes include the downhill, dogleg left 11th, which runs toward Great Peconic Bay, as well as an enviable collection of risk/reward tests, including the short, bunker-strewn par-4 fifth and the superb par-5 18th, with the bay beckoning up the left side.
