Fishers Island is consistently ranked as one of the top courses in the U.S. and the World by Golf Magazine's panel of experts.
This links-style course is located on an island that is only two miles wide and eight miles long. The Long Island Sound comes into play on nine holes, and seven freshwater ponds come into play on the rest of the holes.
The signature hole is No. 5, a par 3 that requires a tee shot to a heavily bunkered green. The course is a regular presence in Golf Magazine's lists of the Top 100 Courses in the U.S. and the World.
Accessible only by ferry, this summer resort island off Connecticut is one of the most exclusive clubs in the world, and it is populated by the oldest of the old money crowd. It is almost as difficult to join as it is to get to.
Architect Tom Doak said, "I cannot deny that on a breezy summer's day, Fishers Island is one of the most idyllic places possible for a round of golf." No doubt the ambience is enhanced by the paucity of players roaming its Seth Raynor-designed fairways.
