Hard to believe, but it's been more than 20 years since golf's first floating island green rose to the surface, but as gimmicks go, it's one of the best ever. The green at the Coeur d'Alene Resort's par-3 14th hole has been one of the most popular (and never duplicated) attractions in the history of golf course design. Players are escorted to and from the 15,000-square-foot, red geranium-ringed putting surface via the Putter Boat shuttle -- and a certificate awaits those who score par or better. Nonetheless, Coeur d'Alene is more than a one-hole wonder. Magnificent conditioning, some stout par 4s and the acclaimed resort that overlooks Lake Coeur d'Alene make Coeur d'Alene a bucket list summer resort destination.
