Trump International Golf Club, Trump International 1
Trump International has been ranked as one of the top courses in the U.S. by Golf Magazine's panel of experts.
Purists may abhor the wall of water that cascades behind the 17th green at Trump International, but it's definitely unforgettable -- like Trump himself. The Donald now presides over five courses, with a new project underway in Aberdeen, Scotland, but this Florida track, his first foray into the sport, might also be his best.
Trump International is anything but subtle. Ranked in GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Courses in the U.S., this private 1999 Jim Fazio design is relentlessly tough, having been sculpted from terrain that was once as flat as a poker table, but which now features contouring that's as intriguing as Trump's hairdo. The 15th and 18th tees are atop a six-story dune and the 14th demands an uphill approach akin to landing the ball on the roof of a clubhouse.
Many folks dismiss the course as the product of a limitless budget. It is certainly that, but beneath all the glitz lurks a terrific course.
GOLF Magazine Top 100 Teacher Dr. Gary Wiren wrote that Trump International is one of his five favorite courses in his article, My Fab 5. Here's what he said:
"There are many courses in America that are aesthetically striking, well designed, beautifully maintained, or challenging but fair -- but few meet all these criteria. Trump International is one, and I enjoy my golf there immensely. The members all say, "I never get tired of playing that course." That's how I feel as well."Design - Golf Course at Trump International Golf Club
