DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Tiger Woods has announced that he will play in next year's Dubai Desert Classic.

Woods says in a statement released by tournament promoters that he wants to win back the title he held in 2008. He was due to defend his title in Dubai last year but was sidelined by knee surgery.

Woods won the tournament in 2006 and 2008 and never finished lower than fifth since he started playing it in 2001.

The tournament, which is part of the European Tour circuit, takes place at Emirates Golf Course from Feb. 10-13.
