VILAMOURA, Portugal (AP) — Martin Kaymer shot an 11-under 61 Thursday, equaling the lowest round on the European Tour this season, and took a three-stroke lead after the first round of the Portugal Masters.

The 22-year-old German shot 29 on the back nine, closing with five straight birdies. He finished with 11 birdies. Daniel Vancsik of Argentina and Martin Erlandsson of Sweden each shot 64.

``I've been waiting for this day for a couple of weeks. My putting has been so-so, but today every putt went in,'' said Kaymer, who had 18 putts.

Gregory Bourdy, Lee Westwood and former U.S. Open winner Retief Goosen trailed by four strokes.

``A 59 is on if it does not get windy,'' said Westwood, who had an eagle-3 at 17.

Justin Rose, chasing his first Order of Merit title, shot 69. Darren Clarke and Rory McIlroy each had 71.
