LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England (AP) - Luke Donald goes into the second round of the British Open on Friday without his regular caddie.

Donald, the No. 1 player in the world still seeking his first major, said on Twitter that he had given caddie John McLaren the day off so he could ``welcome his 1st child into the world'' with wife Helen.

Gareth Lord, the caddie for Robert Karlsson, will be on the bag at Royal Lytham & St. Annes as Donald tries to improve on his even-par 70.

Lord also filled in for McLaren last year at Disney, where Donald made six straight birdies on the back nine and closed with a 64 to win, making him the first player to capture the money title on the PGA and European Tour in the same season.
