NEWPORT, Wales (AP) — England's Luke Donald has rallied from a poor opening round at the Wales Open to equal the Celtic Manor course record.

Donald shot a 6-under 65 Friday despite carrying a seven on his card. His nine birdies come a day after he had a 75 that left him in danger of missing the cut.

Donald completed his round before overnight leader Chris Wood, who had equaled the course record Thursday, set out.
