17-year-old sets course record at Junior PGA

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Justin Thomas has set a course record with a 7-under-par 65 and leads the 35th Junior PGA Championship by one stroke midway through the first round in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Thomas' round Monday includes one eagle, seven birdies and two bogeys on the 7,255-yard Jack Nicklaus-designed course, which is hosting the event for the first time. Thomas is from Goshen, Ky.

Thomas leads 17-year-old Oliver Schniederjans of Powder Springs, Ga., by one stroke, while a group of four players are five strokes back.

Mariah Stackhouse of Riverdale, Ga., and Kyle Roig of Puerto Rico lead the girls side with 2-under 70s.

The field will be cut to the low 30 scores and ties after 54 holes.
